Axis Mundi is a dynamic interdisciplinary firm based in New York, whose work eschews easy categorization. In a world increasingly dominated by the homogeneity of globalization, the firm creates innovative designs with a cultural specificity.

Axis Mundi was founded in 2004 by John Beckmann. Beckmann is a recipient of grants from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, and a MacDowell Colony Fellowship. He edited and contributed to The Virtual Dimension: Architecture, Representation and Crash Culture (Princeton Architectural Press). Beckmann has also been a featured guest on Bloomberg TV and LX-TV's Open House.

Axis Mundi's unusually diverse body of work has garnered critical attention in Metropolitan Home, Spaces, C3, Archiworld and The New York Times, as well as, online publications such as Architype Review, BldgBlog, Curbed, Dezeen, Designboom, Domus, The Architect's Newspaper, and The New York Observer.

The firm’s reputation for bold and speculative thinking has enabled it to attract an international team of talented architects and designers. This combined global experience enables us to provide a wide range of services to our clients.
